Stargazing and Telescopes.

September 1, 2017 at 8 pm 

The UTSA Department of Physics and Astronomy invites the public to our monthly stargazing event "First Friday Stargazing" at the Curtis Flawn Jr. Observatory on the UTSA Main campus. Observatory telescopes will be setup on our star party deck and operated by experienced astronomers from UTSA and volunteers from the San Antonio League of Sidewalk Astronomers. This is a free event and open to all. NOTE: We are a weather dependent event, so it may be cancelled due to clouds and/or rain.

Mission Marquee Plaza - Great Movie for the teens!

Join us for a FREE screening of the classic film, Stand and Deliver. (PG)
Proudly brought to you by City of San Antonio World Heritage Office. We welcome the entire community out to this free, fun-filled event. The true story of Jaime Escalante, a high school teacher who successfully inspired his dropout prone students to learn calculus.

Load up your lawn chairs, blankets and snacks to enjoy during the movie. Venue opens at 7 p.m. and movie will begin 15 minutes after dusk. Food via local food trucks also available for purchase, and FREE popcorn courtesy of City Base Entertainment.

Super Fun Saturday – Book Garden!

This month, we’re celebrating that learning can be SUPER FUN! We're hosting a special Story Time with the cast of The Magik Theatre 's “Pirate Pete” on the Great Lawn, DJ lessons with The AM Project and their Bass Bus AND you can take a free book home from our Book Garden!

Join us every first Saturday (now from 1-3 pm, just after Art in the Park) for SUPER FUN SATURDAYS! These free activities are staff-led exercises in creativity and fun! Get out to the park and get moving!

A Great Day at the Garden!

San Antonio Jewish Senior Services hosts a free community-wide outing at the San Antonio Botanical Garden! Join us for harvest themed activities fun for all ages and a yummy snack bag filled with nature’s goodies. 

The inter-generational event is free of charge but an rsvp is required so we know you’re coming! Thank you to our sponsoring partners at Congregation Agudas Achim, Congregation Rodfei Sholom, Temple Beth El, and our friends at PJ Library, Heintz Preschool, and Hebrew Free Loan of San Antonio for helping make this a really fun event for the whole family.

Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Art in the Park with The Magik Theatre

Saturday September 16, 2017

Starts at 11 am and ends at 1 pm

Join our partner the Magik Theatre for a free theatrical play workshop for kids ages 4-11. This week's performance opportunity will be based on the work of Rudyard Kipling, "Rikki Tikki Tavi" and "Just So Stories". Parental supervision required. Please allow extra time for parking as the workshop begins promptly at 11 am.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is a parking lot adjacent to the park, just north of Magik Theatre at 420 S. Alamo Street for a flat $10 fee. You may be able to find alternate parking in the area, but please allow yourself extra time as the workshop begins promptly at 11 am.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Call the Hemisfair Administrative Office at 210-709-4750. Office Hours are Wednesday thru Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm.

Visit the Witte Museum every Tuesday for free!

Every Tuesday from 3-8 pm, the Witte Museum is free for you and your CASA kids. Be sure to take advantage of all of the enhanced activities and programs for free!

The Witte Museum is a staple of San Antonio and showcases science, natural history, health, and heritage of early South Texas and the surrounding environments. Free admission includes entrance to all permanent exhibits, the South Texas Heritage Center, and the HEB Body Adventure.

San Antonio Museum of Art 

The San Antonio Museum of Art offers free admission twice a week on Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Children 12 and under are always free.

Slab Cinema Offers Free Outdoor Movies!

Want to take your CASA kid to a unique movie experience? Slab Cinema, a local movie company, offers movies in the unique outdoor locations all over the city that you can take part of! The films are sponsored by local organizations around San Antonio like the San Antonio River Authority, the City of San Antonio, and the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA).
