University of the Incarnate Word: Light the Way

Get in the holiday spirit by strolling through The University of the Incarnate Word (located on 4301 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78209) and enjoy millions of twinkling Christmas lights. Displays will remain up throughout the month of December, until January 6, 2017.
 

Ford Holiday Boat Caroling

Stroll along the San Antonio Riverwalk, adore the festive lights and enjoy boats carrying groups performing live Christmas carols. More than 185 groups participate each year. Carolers will be gracing The River Walk from 6 – 9PM through December 18.


McNay ArtStroll: Winter Tales

Bring your little CASA friends ages infant to 2 years for an ArtStroll themed stroller tour and related sensory playtime at the McNay Art Museum located on 6000 North New Braunfels Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78209. ArtStroll will be on Friday, December 2 at the following times:

10:00 am for children under 12 months

11:00 am for children 12 months to 2 years
 

ArtStroll is free for CASA Advocates and their kids and $10 per adult for non-Advocates. If you are able to attend, please notify the McNay staff at the front desk that you are an Advocate with your CASA kids and you’ll get in free!
 

Ford Fiesta De Las Luminarias

Beginning Friday, December 2, experience the holiday serenity of the River Walk as you stroll along the lush banks of the San Antonio River guided by more than 3,000 Luminarias. This century’s old tradition begins at dusk Friday, Saturday & Sunday only for three weekends in December. Luminarias are a traditional Mexican Christmas lantern originally consisting of a candle set in sand inside a small bag. The River Walk luminarias display features 2,000 bags during nine nights over three weekends.
 

Southtown Cinema presents: “Goonies”

Your community movie theatre with FREE screenings of contemporary hits and classic throwbacks, brought to you by neighborhood businesses. Food, drink and music starting at 7:30pm, show time starts at 8:30pm on Saturday, December 3. Come early and stake out your spot! This event will take place at Hemisfair Park, located on 434 S Alamo St, San Antonio, TX 78205.
 

Winterfest Helotes

This free event, with free parking, includes snow, Santa, horse carriage rides, pony rides, food, entertainment, carnival rides, and more! In the giving spirit? Bring a new unwrapped toy for Elf Louise Christmas Project.

Celebrate the holidays on Saturday, December 3 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and enjoy Winterfest at Raymond Russell Park, at 20644 IH 10 West San Antonio, TX 78257 - (Exit #554) just outside of Loop 1604.
 

Tobin and H-E-B Cinema in the Plaza

The 2nd Friday of every month has a FREE movie experience on the Tobin River Walk Plaza at the Tobin for you and your CASA kids! Make sure to bring your blanket/lawn chair and join the Tobin and CASA for a free Friday night movie! (Weather permitting!)

This month’s feature film will be Holiday favorite Elf! Catch this film Friday, December 9 at 8pm; doors open at 7pm! Check out The Tobin Center’s website for more information.
 

UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures: “Winter Celebrations Around the World”

Visit the Institute of Texan Cultures on Sunday, December 11 from 12PM – 4PM and celebrate the variety of festive occasions around the world. The event is free to the public.  Enjoy crafts, performances, and a show by The San Antonio Children’s Ballet of their recent rendition of The Nutcracker. Toddler Art Play: Holiday Fun

Drop in for a mini museum visit meets creative playtime for children under 5. Wear paint clothes for a messy, fun time at the McNay, located on 6000 North New Braunfels Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78209. Weather permitting, program may be outdoors. Enjoy this hands-on event Friday, December 16 from 10:30AM – 11:30AM.

Teen Night: Can’t Cook Cooking Club

Enjoy quick eats and not-so-tricky recipes at The Landa Library on Wednesday, December 28 from 5:30PM - 7PM. Learn some skills to sure to satisfy and impress. Foodies 13-18 only, please! The Landa Library is located on 233 Bushnell Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212. No library card or registration required!

 

 

 

ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES:

Take your CASA kid to University Bowl

University Bowl generously donated vouchers for one free game of bowling, for four guests, including shoe rentals, popcorn and a pitcher of soda to support the CASA mission.  Vouchers are available at CASA’s front desk! Vouchers are first come, first serve, and Advocates must have their CASA badges present at the time of redemption.


Teen Services Offered by the San Antonio Library

The San Antonio Public Library offers regular services and activities to bond with your teen CASA! Check out their website for more information.


Visit the McNay for Free

The McNay Museum has provided free passes for CASA Advocates to take their CASA children.  Passes can be picked up at the CASA office.


Visit the Witte Museum every Tuesday for free!

Every Tuesday from 3-8 pm, the Witte Museum is free for you and your CASA kids. Be sure to take advantage of all of the enhanced activities and programs for free!

The Witte Museum is a staple of San Antonio and showcases science, natural history, health, and heritage of early South Texas and the surrounding environments. Free admission includes entrance to all permanent exhibits, the South Texas Heritage Center, and the HEB Body Adventure.

San Antonio Museum of Art

The San Antonio Museum of Art offers free admission twice a week on Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Children 12 and under are always free.

Slab Cinema Offers Free Outdoor Movies!

Want to take your CASA kid to a unique movie experience? Slab Cinema, a local movie company, offers movies in the unique outdoor locations all over the city that you can take part of! The films are sponsored by local organizations around San Antonio like the San Antonio River Authority, the City of San Antonio, and the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA).

San Antonio Aquarium

The San Antonio Aquarium offers free admission to all foster children.  The San Antonio Aquarium welcomes everyone to enjoy the unique interactive experiences found within, and is especially excited to introduce children and families to the world beneath the ocean’s surface.  Guests are encouraged to hand feed sharks, rays, birds, and fish, or to get up close and personal with many of the reptiles and other animals on exhibit.
