CASA Volunteer - Ed Olson Receives Hero for Children Award

CASA would like to extend huge congratulations to CASA Volunteer, Ed Olson, for recently being awarded the Hero for Children annual award by the State Board of Education. He was awarded this award of exemplary for his outstanding volunteer service to schoolchildren in San Antonio. Ed was among 15 individuals nominated in the state with only two nominees coming from San Antonio.  Ed has been a volunteer with CASA for about a year and a half now. In that time he has advocated for more than a dozen children. Some of those children required the educational advocacy from Ed and without that advocacy may not have received some services without his input. On a current case he has some siblings who are placed in separate placements.  He has been driving a few siblings to Kerrville on a regular basis so that they can visit with their siblings, with one visit being for the birthday of one of the child. She was very happy that he took the time to do this.  In fact, Ed advocated in court that these siblings be placed together and in court the Judge issued this charge to CPS by way of court order.  He has been a voice for these children and has made long lasting impacts on their lives. In his role as a CASA, Ed has elevated himself to the volunteer position of Peer Coordinator, whereby he utilizes his experiences to support a few new volunteers with mentorship and guidance to help them with their cases. CASA is extremely proud of Ed and look forward to his continued advocacy with the cases for which he works. Congratulations Ed for being a hero to children in our community.
