16 De Septiembre Parade

On September 16th, 2017, CASA will join hand in hand with dedicated community members to march and celebrate Mexican Independence Day and we need you!

Dies y Seis de Septiembre commemorates the continued independence of Mexico and the deep traditions and influences it has on local San Antonio culture to this day. The Dies y Seis de Septiembre parade, hosted by the Avenida Guadalupe Association, marches through the historical Westside of San Antonio with dedicated partners like HEB, USAA, and local civic leaders. CASA joins these great organizations and individuals to recognize this momentous day in San Antonio that has been a San Antonio tradition for over 30 years!

Your support in this march is crucial to help recruit even more volunteers. Specifically, CASA is in dire need of more Hispanic volunteers that can stand up for children in care that often times don’t have someone that knows them best. Over 30% of our volunteers are Hispanic and we’ve made great strides to increase the diversity of our program, but there’s still a need for more. With 70% of the children identified as Hispanic, the need is even greater.  When Hispanic children have a volunteer that speaks their language, understands their culture, and empathizes with their struggle, their outcomes are even better. They’re more likely to open up about what they’re going through, get the services they desperately need, and find better ways to navigate an overburdened system. When CASA recognizes Dies y Seis de Septiembre, it solidifies our continued support of the importance of Hispanic culture in San Antonio and lend a voice to raise awareness for the dire need for more Hispanic volunteers.

We invite you, our Advocates, supporters, and their families to stand up and march one mile through the heart of the Westside with us on September 16th. Once the parade is over at noon, you’re free to enjoy all the festivities and food Avenida Guadalupe Association has to offer! Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes to beat the Texas!

To join us, please RSVP to Forrest Miller, Diversity Recruitment Specialist, at fmiller@casa-satx.org or call the CASA office at 210-225-7070 and he’ll send you more details and confirmation for the march. Last year was a great success and we can’t wait to represent CASA at this parade!
