Child Advocates San Antonio Recognizes National Bullying Prevention Month

Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” -Henry James

October is anti-bullying month and at Child Advocates San Antonio (CASA), we truly believe in the giving a voice to the unheard. Our mission revolves around compassion and empowerment, as we see demonstrated daily by our dedicated Advocates and teammates.

With bullying and cyberbullying on the rise, a nationwide anti-bullying campaign kicked-off earlier this month highlighting simple ways to combat bullying in your community. More than 10 million people have pledged to “STOMP out bullying,” and “delete digital drama,” including celebrities like Michael Strahan, Nick Carter, and Mario Lopez.

According to a blogpost by STOMP out bullying, 1 in 4 school-aged children have reported being bullied, and an astounding 9 in 10 LGBT youth reported being harassed at school.

The Leading National Bullying and Cyberbullying Prevention Organization for Kids and Teens emphasizes that bullying is not a catch-all phrase: mistreatment comes in many forms ranging from emotional intimidation to hazing.

There are multiple ways to stand up, and STOMP out bullying:

  1.  “If you notice someone being isolated from others, invite them to join you”
  2.  “Include the victim in some of your activities”
  3.  “Don’t laugh… or become and audience for the bully”

For information on how to end the cycle of bullying, check out www.stompoutbullying.org.

CASA proudly supports the STOMP out bullying campaign. On a daily basis, our Advocates and supporters spread kindness beyond our office doors and into the neighborhoods of San Antonio.
