CASA Receives Nonprofit of the Year Award

Child Advocates San Antonio (CASA) has been awarded the Nonprofit Organization of the Year from the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.  The award recognizes nonprofit organizations that manage an exceptional volunteer program whose efforts have made a significant increase in the impact the agency is making to the community.

Presented at the 25th Annual Volunteer of the Year Awards Program, The Night of a Thousand Stars, on Wednesday, June 25, the honor was given to CASA for its achievement and excellence in providing advocacy to the abused and neglected children of San Antonio and Bexar County.

On hand to accept the award was CASA President and CEO, Rick Cooke.  “We are proud to receive this honor and to be recognized among the other organizations and individuals who are doing such amazing work in this community,” Cooke stated. “The ongoing support of the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County helps make possible the work that CASA does on behalf of abused and neglected children.”

For over seventy years, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County has funded agencies and programs that reach out to individuals, families and children throughout San Antonio and Bexar County. Today, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County is the largest and most respected, private health and human care service organization in Bexar County.

Child Advocates San Antonio has successfully provided abused and neglected children in Bexar County a unique service since 1984. CASA supports 500 community volunteers who will advocate for 1,650 children in the Bexar County foster care system this year. CASA’s long-term goal is to provide an Advocate for every child who needs one by 2020.
