National CASA Association Board Member of the Year

The National CASA Association honors an individual who exemplifies outstanding leadership and commitment to the CASA/GAL program in his or her role as a member of the CASA/GAL Board of Directors or Advisory Council.

We are pleased to share that Mark Jones, Regional Vice President, Structure Tone Southwest, and Child Advocate San Antonio Board Member is the 2017 honoree. Mark was recognized on March 13TH in Seattle, WA at the National CASA Awards of Excellence Ceremony. Since he joined the board in February 2013, he has gone above and beyond to promote the program’s mission and identify new funding source, volunteers, and supporters.

Mark is generous with his time and resources. When the program grew and required more space, Mark’s construction company renovated our office at little to no cost. In advance of a fundraising event, Mark reached out to a local artist friend to develop an idea for a painting. The result was a beautiful work of art that raised a significant amount for the program. For one of the program’s events, he helped create 20 special boards showcasing 20 photos of the children we serve and their volunteers, enhanced by light and sound. The installation received rave reviews from attendees.

Mark has personally donated to our CASA program in a substantial way and has also raised meaningful donations from his contacts. He makes important connections for the program, including to city and county officials, which opened the door to new funding opportunities. He organized and sponsored a volunteer recruitment event targeting potential male volunteers, who heard area judges and the program’s CEO talk about how they can get involved.

“Mark consistently goes beyond in his support, and his willingness to promote our mission in our community is never ending. Most of all Mark has a deep-seated passion to provide hope for the nearly 2,500 children we serve.” says Peter Hyk, Past Board President.

He has served on multiple board committees, including the cultivation committee and the capital campaign committee. Mark takes the time to connect to our program’s mission directly by attending volunteer swearing-in ceremonies and youth roundtables for older foster youth.
