Abby’s Closet

Abby’s Closet is a community- led CASA initiative that benefits all our teen girls (ages 13 and up). This year’s event theme is Abby in the Roaring 20’s and will be held April 1st from 10am-2pm at our CASA offices.

Abby’s Closet was started in 2012 as a celebration of Abby – a CASA child who was in a coma at five-years old because she only weighed fifteen pounds. Abby’s Advocate, Jan, said she never saw Abby in the same light her discouraged doctors, social worker, and lawyer did. She always saw her playing dress up, walking, talking, and going to prom, which because of Jan’s advocacy, Abby does and will do!

CASA staff is able to engage the community in Abby’s Closet by reaching out to local cosmetology schools, businesses, and individuals looking to donate toward this cause. The CASA young ladies and their advocates arrive at CASA where they are able to pick out several dresses, other clothing, scarves, purses, jewelry, toiletries, make up, receive free hair and make-up consultation from professional beauticians, take pictures at a photo booth and enjoy a girl’s day at CASA. It is a day of pampering and lunch and refreshments are provided. The teens are given a gift bag with beauty products and there is DJ entertainment during this event.

CASA has begun gathering donations for semi/formal dresses, other clothing, shoes and an array of accessories. These donations come from various community organizations, as well as individuals in our community to include our amazing CASA volunteers and their friends and families. If you would like to help with this year’s Abby’s Closet we are currently accepting donations for the following items: gently used or new dresses, shoes, and accessories for young ladies ages 13 to 18 years old.  You may drop items off from now until March 27th at our CASA office located at 406 San Pedro. Our CASA young ladies will truly appreciate all your help!

CASA collaborates with local high schools, National Charity League, Junior League, San Antonio Women’s Bar Association, Full Force Foundation and many other charitable organizations that are committed to making Abby’s Closet a success each and every year.
