Abby’s Closet 2014

Abby’s Closet was started in 2012 as a celebration of Abby—one of our CASA children who was in a coma at five-years old because she only weighed fifteen pounds due to steady starvation at the hands of her mother. Abby’s Advocate, Jan, said she never saw Abby in the same light her discouraged doctors, social worker, and lawyer did. She always saw her playing dress up, walking, talking, and going to prom, which because of Jan’s advocacy, Abby does and will do!

Because of Abby, we were inspired to organize a formal/semi-formal dress wear and accessories drive. The results of our efforts will then culminate at our annual event on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Each CASA teen girl will be given the opportunity to take home several dresses and accessories as well as goodie bags that are beginning to be filled with gifts from local organizations and businesses throughout San Antonio.

Additionally, Mary Ann Lara, owner of Bleu Beauty Lounge, and students from the Aveda Institute will be volunteering their time and services to give hair and make-up consultations to the CASA teens.

If you or anyone you know is interested in donating dresses*, shoes, or accessories to Abby’s Closet, please contact Casey Gillespie at cgillespie@casa-satx.org or 210.225.7070. In order to donate to this event we are asking that all items be brought in by Wednesday, February 26, 2014.

*Please note:  Only new or gently used, dry-cleaned formal or semi-formal dresses can be accepted. Thank you.
