CASA Day at the Capitol

On January 30, 2013, Child Advocates San Antonio, along with many other CASA programs around Texas, attended the CASA Day at the Capitol in Austin, Texas. CASA Day at the Capitol was a huge success with more than 300 CASA volunteers, staff and board members filling the statehouse in their finest CASA “blue”.

CASA volunteers shared their personal stories of advocacy and how it has made a difference in the lives of children in foster care. They talked to legislators about the importance of keeping CASA funded so that more children in State protective custody have an independent, consistent voice speaking up for them in court.

“The collective voice of CASA on Capitol Day was powerful,” said Texas CASA CEO, Vicki Spriggs. “Thanks to the work of CASA volunteers in their home districts, the relationships with elected officials and the powerful stories and concerns shared, the CASA community is showing that we are indeed a voice for children in foster care.”
