Grant Award From National CASA

Child Advocates San Antonio (CASA) was founded in 1984 by the National Council of Jewish Women to ensure that the needs of abused and neglected children in Bexar County would not be overlooked. Our agency was modeled on the National Court Appointed Special Advocates (National CASA) model, which was established in 1977 by a Seattle Superior Court judge who utilized trained volunteers to ‘speak’ for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court.  Today, our agency continues to look to National CASA to help set guidelines for our model of service and to assist in funding our program.   National CASA receives funding from the federal legislature that they make available to local CASA agencies through a competitive grant process. On April 29, 2013, CASA received notification that we were granted the maximum award of $40,000 from National CASA for FY2014. Because of National CASA’s amazing gift, we are one step closer to one day providing an Advocate for every child who needs one.
