October Advocate Spotlight

Sol Arena Russo

Advocate: Deborah Hom

1. How long have you been an Advocate and when did you realize you wanted to become one?

I became an Advocate in February 2024 because I felt it was such a special and unique role for someone like me—someone who cares deeply about kids in foster care but wasn’t yet ready to become a foster parent or a caseworker.”

2. What is the most rewarding aspect of being an advocate?

The most rewarding part of being an Advocate has been the relationships I’ve built with the kids. During their 18-month case, they’ve had three different caseworkers, but CASA has been the steady presence throughout. They light up when I visit, and they know I will listen to them and take them seriously."

3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to your fellow and incoming Advocates, what would they be?

Follow the evidence and show up consistently. Your presence and commitment can make all the difference.”
