Advocate Spotlight: Bruce Thompson

Meet Bruce

1. How long have you been an Advocate and when did you realize you wanted to become one?

“I became a CASA Advocate in July or August of 2023. After many years working in with Child Protective Services as a Child Care Administrator / Child Placing Agency Administrator / Licensed Clinical Social Worker and foster parent, I knew and respected the value of CASA advocates. When I retired from professional work, I wanted to find some valuable activities to become engaged in and CASA was one of the first.”

2. What is the most rewarding aspect of being an Advocate?

“For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a CASA is seeing parents working hard to improve their lives and children being reunited with their parents (when appropriate).”

3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to your fellow and incoming Advocates, what would they be?

“What I would say to incoming advocates is not to give up! I have seen parents turn it around and get their lives in order, even when I thought they couldn't do it. In every case I have worked, they children really wanted to be reunited with their parent and it is very rewarding to see that happen when it is in the best interest of the children.”
