August Advocate Spotlight
Alejandro Gandara
1. How long have you been an Advocate and when did you realize you wanted to become one?
I became a CASA in November 2023. I saw a YouTube ad about CASA and it interested me. Eventually I saw other organizations that helped foster youth and it reminded me of CASA, so I decided to check out the orientation, which was right by my house, and decided during the orientation that it was definitely for me. Jose Guevara helped me understand the impact you can have on someone, and I really just wanted to positively influence a child, in whatever way I could.
2. What is the most rewarding aspect of being an advocate?
Of course, it is the fact that you are having a truly positive impact on a child's life and future; however, I love the genuine happiness and excitement I see in my kiddo when he greets me, it is something really rewarding and something I never really thought would happen. Just makes me happy.
3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to your fellow and incoming Advocates, what would they be?
Just dive into it and realize somehow you will make it work. In the end, you will have made a truly positive impact on a child and will also learn so much in the process. You won't regret it one bit.
