January Advocate Spotlight
Lauren Lynes-Martinez
1. How long have you been an Advocate and when did you realize you wanted to become one?
I was sworn in on February 4, 2024, so I’ve been an Advocate for almost two years. I first learned about CASA about 15 years ago while living in Austin and immediately felt drawn to the mission. I knew I had something meaningful to offer, but it took time to get to a place in life where I could fully commit. Once my own kids were a little older, I knew it was the right time to finally step in and get involved.
2. What is the most rewarding aspect of being an advocate?
The most rewarding part of being an Advocate is building trust and a genuine connection with my youth. Knowing that she feels comfortable sharing both her highs and her challenges with me means a great deal. Watching her grow and supporting how she sees herself has been incredibly meaningful.
3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to your fellow and incoming Advocates, what would they be?
Balancing advocacy with everyday life can be challenging at times, and it’s important to remember you’re not meant to do it alone. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your supervisor and ask for support when you need it. Even small accommodations or stepping in when you can’t be present can make a big difference, and there’s often more support available than you might expect.
